Privacy Policy

The short version: the Qibla calculation happens on your device. We do not receive your coordinates unless you choose to include them in a message to us.

1. Who this policy covers

This policy explains how Qibla Finder ("we," "us," or "the site") handles information when you use qiblafinder.dev or contact us. It applies to the Qibla finder, the map, the tasbih counter, and supporting pages.

2. The location calculation

If you press Use my location, your browser asks for permission to obtain coordinates from your device. If you enter coordinates manually, they are read directly from the fields. In both cases, the bearing and distance are calculated by JavaScript running in your browser.

  • We do not operate an application server that receives or stores those coordinates.
  • The coordinates are not added to the page URL.
  • They are not written to cookies or browser storage.
  • Closing or reloading the page clears the current calculation.

Your browser and operating system control location permission. You can deny or revoke it in their settings and use manual coordinates instead.

3. Live compass and device sensors

If you enable the live compass, the page reads orientation information exposed by your browser. Those readings are used only to rotate the dial on your screen. We do not transmit, record, or retain them. Sensor access can be denied or revoked through your browser or device settings.

4. Information stored on your device

The site uses browser local storage for the following:

  • Theme: whether you selected light or dark mode.
  • Distance unit: whether you selected kilometres or miles.
  • Tasbih counter: if you use the counter, the dhikr and target you chose, the count for each dhikr or sequence you have used, your totals for today and all time, and whether sound, vibration, and keep-screen-on are switched on. This is saved after every tap so the count survives a reload.

This information stays in your browser and is not sent to us. You can remove it by clearing site data in your browser; tasbih counts can also be removed with Clear all saved counts on the counter page. Qibla Finder does not set advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking cookies.

The tasbih counter's vibration and keep-screen-on options use features of your device through the browser. They do not send or record anything.

5. Map and OpenStreetMap

The map loads with the page. Its images are requested automatically from OpenStreetMap's tile servers: first for a world view, and, once you set a location by pressing Use my location or entering coordinates, for the area around that location. Like any web request, a tile request can disclose your IP address, browser information, request time, and the map tile being viewed. The tile coordinates can reveal the approximate area shown on the map.

Those requests are handled under the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy. We do not control OpenStreetMap's systems or retention practices. The bearing and compass work even if the map does not load.

6. Hosting logs

Although the site itself has no analytics, the hosting and network providers that deliver its files may process standard technical logs. These can include IP address, user-agent string, requested path, time, referring page, and error or security information. Such logs are ordinarily used to operate, secure, and diagnose the service.

Their retention and processing depend on the provider used for deployment. We do not combine hosting logs with coordinates or use them to build advertising profiles.

7. Messages you send us

The contact page opens your email application rather than submitting a form to this website. If you email us, we receive the address, message, attachments, and any other information you choose to provide. Email is handled by the sender's and recipient's email providers, not by the Qibla calculation.

We use that information to answer the message, investigate a report, protect the service, or keep a reasonable record of the conversation. We retain it only as long as reasonably needed for those purposes or to meet legal obligations. Do not send passwords, private keys, financial information, or other unnecessary sensitive material.

8. No sale, advertising, or automated decisions

We do not sell or rent personal information. The site does not serve behavioural advertising, create marketing profiles, or make decisions about people using automated profiling. We may disclose information only when required by applicable law, needed to protect the service or others, or involved in a legitimate transfer of the project.

9. Data security

The site is designed to minimize collection rather than promise that collection is perfectly secure. We use HTTPS, restrictive browser security policies, local computation, and limited third-party requests. No transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure, including email.

10. International processing

Hosting, network, mapping, and email providers may process information in countries other than yours. Their privacy policies and applicable law govern those transfers. The map's tile requests are made on every visit to a page that shows the map; avoid sending email if you do not want the email provider to receive the associated information.

11. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, privacy law may give you rights concerning personal information we hold, such as:

  • asking whether we hold information about you;
  • requesting access, correction, or deletion;
  • objecting to or restricting certain processing; and
  • complaining to an appropriate data-protection authority.

Most site activity gives us nothing that identifies you: coordinates and sensor readings remain in the browser. For information contained in an email conversation, contact us from the relevant address so we can reasonably verify the request. Some information may need to be retained where applicable law permits or requires it.

12. Children

Qibla Finder is a general-audience utility and is not directed specifically to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through accounts, profiles, or forms because the site has none. If you believe a child has sent personal information by email, contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site, its providers, or legal requirements change. The date at the top identifies the current version. Material changes will be described on this page before or when they take effect where reasonably possible.

14. Contact

Privacy questions and requests can be sent to contact@qiblafinder.dev. Please use a descriptive subject line such as "Privacy request." See the contact page for more guidance.
